Six years in places that stopped working.
Elena Ross began photographing disused limestone quarries in 2019, intending to document industry. What she found instead was weather. The cut faces had already begun to soften; water had found the old channels and was doing the slow work of regrading them.
The book follows fourteen sites across Indiana and Tennessee, returning to several of them every spring. Plates are sequenced by return rather than by geography, so the reader notices the same wall twice and sees what a year has done to it.
Two short essays — one by the photographer, one by the geologist Ruth Achebe — sit between the plate sections, and a folded index at the back records every visit: date, weather, exposure, and what had changed.

MORROW EDITIONS works with writers, photographers, artists, architects and designers to produce carefully edited physical and digital publications.
We are an independent publisher. Each title begins with a conversation and is edited, designed and produced in close collaboration with the people who made the work — usually over one to two years, occasionally longer.
